Fear, especially of the unknown can be debilitating. Pushing beyond the boundaries of your comfort zone and overcoming your fear is empowering beyond belief.
When you accomplish your impossible, you instill a tremendous amount of can-do energy and a sense of renewal, release, and reclamation. To harness this feeling you have to pop your protective comfort zone bubble and face. your. fear. Turns out, there’s no better way than jumping out of a perfectly good airplane to seal the deal.
Every year, tens of thousands of people in the US alone make their first tandem skydive despite it being the scariest notion they can conjure. A significant number jump because they know that casting their fear to the wind will return them to Earth feeling lighter, more confident, wholly grounded.
It’s called a comfort zone because when you’re in your safe place, there are no surprises, no challenges, no triggers.
And no growth.
To increase your level of awesome, you have to color outside of your own lines … which can be downright daunting. The return on the investment of getting up off the couch and doing the damn thing is enormous, though. Totally worth the reward. You have the power to make choices that will change the rest of your dag-on life.
Sure, you can start small. There’s power in every footfall on the journey. But if you’re ready to double-dog-dare yourself, make it epic. Earn your seat back on that couch; don’t circle back until you’re carrying a whole new perspective.
Skydiving is a sure-fire way to shake things up. When you skydive, you sign your brain up for the ride of its life:
Adrenaline surges throughout your body in anticipation of your jump and when you’re flying through the sky at 120 miles per hour in freefall. Your energy is through the roof. You’re strong, powerful, unstoppable. ROAR.
Serotonin and dopamine bathe your brain as you calmly float under quiet canopy and after you touch down and begin to process what YOU just did. You’re worthy, enriched, inspired. Life is exhilarating. This is happiness.
Once you’ve allowed your brain to taste this most-delicious cocktail of empowerment, you’ll open yourself up to more previously out-of-the-question ideas. You will grow into new experiences, all the time narrowing the margins of your comfort zone.
This could mean jumping again (or for some of us, again and again and again), or it could translate to advocating for a promotion, moving to a new city or asking someone out. Giving yourself permission to try means giving yourself the opportunity to bask in the glory of success and allows you to see failure as a positive. You come out on the other side stronger, smarter, bolder.
Lean into your fear and step into your potential.
Think we’re blowing smoke about the power of skydiving? Check these comments from a few of the first timers we were privileged to host this year alone:
I will NEVER forget that day. I was a man afraid of heights and rollercoasters, but not anymore. I humbly embrace fear as a teacher. I have learned from my fear – live in the moment and fear will not bother you. Skydiving Orange helped make that experience for me. What’s life without risks? AWESOME experience and I’ll do it again in a heartbeat!
Never in a million years could anything beat the experience! I saw the Earth down below, felt the most intense wind blowing against me and I was like whoa… this is why I’m here!
Thank you for making my 60th birthday the absolute BEST EVER!! Omg I can’t wait to do this again. I was so scared. Now I have to do it again for the sheer enjoyment of it all. I’ve watched my video a gazillion times to relive the moment.
Telling your success story with others is a great way to imprint life-altering lessons on your own psyche and inspires others to stock-pile their own grit and reach boldly beyond where they thought they’d ever go.
