Skydiving isn’t just for the daredevils and thrill-seekers of the world! As long as you’ve hit the magic age of 18 and are in generally good health, you’re cleared to soar through the skies. If you find yourself asking “what kind of person skydives?” you probably fit the bill based on your curiosity alone! Let’s talk about the type of person who skydives.
Conquering fear is something that will happen repeatedly throughout our lives. Whether it’s trying a new food, falling in love, or jumping from a perfectly good airplane, you’ll need to take a leap of faith. Just like any extreme sport, skydiving presents multiple opportunities to overcome fear. Maybe you’re scared of flying in an airplane, the parachute malfunctioning, failing a student level when learning to skydive solo, or just showing up to fill out the waiver!
While these are all valid fears, you need to remember that you statistically have a much higher chance of getting hurt on your way to the drop zone. At the drop zone, you’ll be meeting some of the nicest and most welcoming souls (our staff!!), and remember that growth cannot happen in your comfort zone. It is much better to conquer the fear of failure than to live with the feeling of regret.
The skydiving progression after completing your tandem skydive is challenging but extremely fun and rewarding. Not many people get to say that they’ve been skydiving, let alone skydiving solo! Our student program, called Accelerated Freefall (AFF), is taught by world-class and safety-oriented instructors. AFF is the most extensive and encompassing student progression program for skydiving in the world.
After completing AFF, the remainder of the student progression, and gaining your A-license (LET’S GO!) you’ll be able to begin pursuing different types of skydiving disciplines. There’s freeflying (think: flying head down or sitting, instead of on your belly), relative work, swooping, wingsuiting … the possibilities are endless!
The time between your first jump and your last jump is full of learning. Skydivers pride themselves on learning something new, improving on a skill, and becoming a safer and more well-rounded skydiver on every single jump, not just throughout the initial student progression. Skydivers can take constructive criticism, as we are always going to be students with an eagerness to get better. To be an avid skydiver, you have to practice combining humility and confidence!
Tired of the same old same old? Skydiving opens the door to a multitude of opportunities. Do you want to only skydive a couple times on the weekends with your buddies? Cool. Do you want to take courses and hone in on excelling at a specific skill? Nice! Take a year off work to travel to different drop zones and their boogies? Heck yeah! Maybe traveling isn’t your thing but you really want to become a coach or instructor to introduce others to a sport that you love so much? Sweet! Skydiving can become an awesome weekend hobby or a life-changing and passionate calling, it’s really up to you!
We’re going to dedicate a moment to give the skydiving community the hype it deserves. For starters, our community stretches across the entire globe – from the youngest person to skydive to people who are over 100 years old! Skydiving is an extremely diverse sport that is loved and pursued by people from all different walks of life.
Although our outward appearances and life experiences may vary greatly, we all share a common love and admiration for the sky and progressing in the sport. Once you complete your first jump, and if you choose to delve into jumping solo, you’ll quickly find that we’re a group where friends easily become more like family.
Is it your 18th or 80th birthday? Did you just get married? Gender reveal? Graduation? Were you out with your friends and someone had the bright idea to jump out of an airplane together? Did literally nothing happen but you’re just high on life? Cheers to that! Skydiving for the first time is monumental and arguably one of the most memorable days of your life! Combining this with another special date makes it the perfect way to celebrate. While your friends are having a fancy dinner to celebrate their graduation, you can spend the same amount (if not less!) on the leap of your life.
