Why Do People Skydive?

Why Do People Skydive?

Wednesday, July 19, 2023

Why do people want to skydive? It’s a question we get all of the time. Most people think a person would have to have a screw loose to want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane – that skydivers are just reckless adrenaline junkies living on the edge and against the rules of society! However, that is far from the truth.

Why Do People Skydive?

The fact is, there are many reasons why people skydive and it varies from person to person. The choice to go skydiving can be very personal and it’s usually not limited to one sole reason. Of all the reasons, we’ve narrowed it down to five of the most popular reasons why people skydive and what it is that keeps skydivers coming back.

1. Skydiving for the Thrill

There’s no doubt that skydiving is a thrilling adventure, but it’s also way more than that. Skydiving makes you feel alive and gives you a unique perspective that brings about a whole new appreciation for life. And yes, the adrenaline rush is no doubt a part of that experience. Adrenaline, dopamine, and serotonin make up the wonderful cocktail of feel-good hormones that bring a sense of euphoria and loads of other positive effects that can improve your overall quality of life. Skydiving fills you up with absolute joy that is difficult to explain – it just has to be experienced firsthand.

2. Skydiving for the Experience

Some people skydive just to say “I did it!” – which is cool in our book! A tandem skydive is the perfect way to experience skydiving for the first time and check it off that bucket list. Let’s be honest, most people start skydiving this way. But somewhere along the way, something clicks and they totally get it. Your tandem skydive can lead to a lifetime of jumps or just be the one experience that you look back on as a reminder of the lessons you learned while on your journey. Either way, this experience will change your life!

3. Skydiving for the Empowerment

Skydiving challenges you and boosts your confidence like no other. Taking yourself out of the known and into the unknown has a way of opening yourself up to the endless possibilities of life. It is a leap of faith into a world without limitations. When you’re skydiving, you gain a sense of confidence and feel in control of your life, which can impact other aspects of your life. Because if you can push through the mental challenge of skydiving, you can conquer anything life throws at you!

4. Skydiving for the Freedom

From the time you leave the plane, you’ll experience a stupendous sense of freedom. You’re flying through the air, with the ability to move your body in all dimensions with no limitations to the incredible view of the world. In freefall, it’s fast, loud, and extremely fun – but once that parachute opens up everything goes silent in an instant, and an overwhelming sense of calm rushes over you. It’s quite peaceful, awe-inspiring, and truly amazing to be surrounded by the beauty of nature, flying amongst the birds. To some, it’s almost like a type of therapy or meditation that helps bring you out of your head and into the present moment. Up here, you’re not worried about bills, work, due dates, or any other stressful moments that you deal with daily – a moment to disconnect and recharge. It’s just you, the sky, and the people you’re jumping with.

5. Skydiving for the Community

Skydivers are people from all walks of life: students, doctors, blue-collar workers, seniors, parents, teachers … the list goes on! What we have in common is an affinity for partaking in activities that make us feel alive and a shared understanding of the higher truth that is bigger than us all. In turn, we develop a sense of camaraderie and share a bond that is simply unmatched. We love to celebrate our bond and excitement by hanging out at the dropzone after a day of jumping, sharing stories, cookouts, bonfires, and skydiving events called boogies. We are a tight-knit family that is connected by our passion for the sport.

What Does Skydiving Say About Your Personality?

There isn’t really a “type” of person that skydives, as you’ll see when you step foot on the dropzone. However, it’s no secret that skydivers tend to lean a little towards a “Type A” personality. Skydivers are usually highly ambitious, goal-oriented, and competitive individuals who are motivated by challenges. People who skydive are usually very open-minded, excited about life, and love to try new things, and experience new adventures.

What are the Benefits of Skydiving?

Why skydive? Well, on top of everything else, skydiving has loads of mental, physical, and spiritual benefits that will change your life.

  • Mental Benefits: The release of endorphins, serotonin, dopamine, and adrenaline creates an anxiety-free and euphoric feeling. Some people even say that skydiving is a great therapy that can help with depression, anger, and anxiety.
  • Physical Benefits: Skydiving works muscles that you never really use because well, how often do you fly? Carrying heavy gear, walking from the dropzone back to the hangar, crouching, and stretching. You’ll improve your flexibility, strength, and stamina.
  • Spiritual Benefits: Skydiving changes your perspective – literally and mentally. It’s a soul-nourishing experience that serves as a great reminder of the beauty of life and the beauty that lives inside us all.

At Skydive Orange, we believe that skydiving isn’t just an activity or something we DO – it’s a lifestyle. A choice to live a life of abundance, freedom, growth, and empowerment. Come see why people skydive – book your jump today! Blue skies.
